Tue Oct 08 18:10:16 UTC 2024: ## BJP Wins Kishtwar in J&K Assembly Elections, NC-Congress Alliance to Form Government

**Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir -** Shagun Parihar, the BJP candidate, has won the Kishtwar seat in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections by a margin of over 500 votes. This victory is particularly significant as Parihar is the daughter of Ajit Parihar, a BJP leader who was killed by Hizbul Mujahideen in 2018.

Parihar, who is just 29 years old, defeated the National Conference candidate. Her father and uncle, Anil Parihar, were killed by terrorists near their home before the panchayat elections. Shagun’s name was declared in the BJP’s first list of candidates.

The BJP’s victory in Kishtwar marks a shift in the region’s political landscape. The party first won the seat in 2014, breaking the National Conference’s long-standing dominance.

While the BJP is set to win 29 seats, all in the Jammu region, the overall victory belongs to the National Conference-Congress alliance. Farooq Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, has announced that Omar Abdullah will be the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.
