Tue Oct 08 18:01:10 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader Shagun Parihar Wins Kishtwar Seat in Jammu & Kashmir Elections

**Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir:** Shagun Parihar, a BJP leader who lost her father and uncle in a terror attack in 2018, has emerged victorious in the Kishtwar constituency in the recent Jammu & Kashmir elections.

Parihar, the sole female candidate of the BJP in the elections, secured a comfortable victory by a margin of 521 votes, defeating the incumbent National Conference (NC) candidate Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo. She received 29,053 votes.

Her victory is being attributed to the widespread support she received, including campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed solidarity with her during the election campaign. The BJP had strategically fielded Parihar in Kishtwar, a region known for its history of militancy, aiming to consolidate support in the area.

Parihar’s father, Ajit Parihar, and her uncle, Anil Parihar, who was also a district level BJP leader, were killed in a terror attack in November 2019. Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were actively involved in campaigning for Parihar, highlighting her resilience and urging voters to support her.

Parihar’s victory is considered a significant win for the BJP, showcasing their ability to mobilize support even in challenging areas like Kishtwar.
