The Jhajjar assembly seat in Haryana is seeing a fierce battle this election, with the BJP and Congress locked in a close contest.
The INLD-BSP alliance has fielded Dharambeer Singh, while the JJP-ASP alliance has nominated Naseeb Sonu. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has put its faith in Mahender Dahiya, while the Congress is banking on the incumbent MLA and former Minister, Geeta Bhukkal.
Jaydeep from RPI(A) and Captain Birhana are contesting on the BJP ticket. Geeta Bhukkal has won the seat twice consecutively, securing a comfortable victory in 2019 with a margin of 14,999 votes. She is aiming for a hat-trick this election.
In the 2019 election, Bhukkal secured 46,480 votes, while the BJP candidate Rakesh Kumar garnered 31,481 votes.
The Jhajjar constituency has a significant place in Haryana’s political landscape. It first witnessed elections in 1967, where an Independent candidate emerged victorious. In 1977, it was separated from Rohtak and given the status of a district. Notably, several prominent personalities hail from Jhajjar, including star cricketer Rohit Sharma, wrestling champion Bajrang Punia, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, Asian Games bronze medalist Naveen Kumar, and former Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag.
