Mon Oct 07 22:34:14 UTC 2024: ## BMW iX3 Production Ends, New Electric SUV Arriving in 2025
**Munich, Germany** – BMW has announced the discontinuation of the iX3 electric SUV, with the last models currently in production already spoken for. The company will not be accepting further orders for the iX3, which is no longer available in the configurator. This move comes as BMW prepares for the launch of its new Neue Klasse electric platform, with the first model expected to be unveiled by the end of 2025.
The iX3, based on the CLAR platform originally designed for combustion engines, has faced challenges in the competitive electric SUV market. Its rear-wheel-drive setup lacked the all-wheel-drive option available in competing models, and its range and charging performance have fallen behind.
Additionally, the iX3’s production in China, coupled with the upcoming special tariffs on imports into the EU, added to its limitations.
The successor to the iX3 will be the first model to utilize the Neue Klasse platform, which was specifically designed for electric vehicles. This platform will introduce several advancements, including round battery cells and an 800-volt system, resulting in improved efficiency and performance.
While BMW has enjoyed success with its multi-energy strategy, primarily offering electric variants of existing combustion engine models, the company acknowledges the changing landscape of the electric vehicle market. The Neue Klasse platform signals BMW’s commitment to developing vehicles specifically optimized for electric propulsion.
This transition will see all future BMW electric vehicles, from the 2 Series to the 7 Series, adopt the new platform. Production for the Neue Klasse vehicles is set to take place in Hungary, marking a shift from the iX3’s Chinese production.
