Tue Oct 08 03:13:03 UTC 2024: ## Congress Leads in Early Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Election Results
**New Delhi:** The counting of votes for the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections began at 8 am today, with initial results showing a lead for the Congress party in both states.
Exit polls had predicted a Congress sweep in Haryana and a hung assembly in Jammu & Kashmir. The BJP and the INDIA alliance are hoping to make gains in both states.
Haryana saw a 67.90% voter turnout in its single-phase election, while Jammu & Kashmir recorded a 63.45% turnout over three phases.
The Congress is optimistic in Haryana, fueled by factors such as the farmer protests, the wrestlers’ protests, and the recent shift of BJP leader Ashok Tanwar to the Congress party.
Exit polls had predicted a National Conference-Congress alliance victory in Jammu & Kashmir. The National Conference has reached out to the PDP to join the alliance in case of a short majority. The outcome of the election will depend on the independent candidates and the Governor’s authority to nominate five members to the assembly.
