Tue Oct 08 08:52:18 UTC 2024: ## BJP Storms to Victory in Haryana, Congress Faces Crushing Defeat

**New Delhi:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, bucking the trend of anti-incumbency and surpassing expectations. The party, in power for the past 10 years, has won 48 seats (as per latest reports), comfortably exceeding the majority mark of 46.

This win marks a significant climb for the BJP, which had won 47 seats in 2014. The party successfully consolidated its hold, despite facing stiff competition from a united opposition.

The Congress, despite favorable conditions, failed to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment and will remain in the opposition. The party’s strategy of focusing on the discontent among farmers and wrestlers, and its alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Lok Sabha elections, did not translate into electoral success in the state assembly.

The Congress’s campaign suffered from internal strife. Veteran leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s diminished role, coupled with discontent from Dalit leader Shélja Kumari, further hampered their efforts. The party’s late attempt to woo Dalit voters by bringing in Ashok Tanwar from the BJP proved unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s strategy of uniting the OBC vote base by replacing Ghanshyam Surjewala with Nayab Singh Saini proved effective.

The AAP, despite gaining a significant increase in its vote share, failed to convert it into seats. Its alliance with the Congress in the Lok Sabha election had been a key factor in the Congress’s success in the state, but this time, the alliance was absent.

The defeat marks a setback for the Congress in its bid to regain power in Haryana. The BJP’s strong performance is attributed to its effective campaign strategy, its ability to consolidate various social groups, and its successful campaign against the Congress’s internal discord.
