Tue Oct 08 09:00:53 UTC 2024: ## Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Declines PM Modi’s Video Call After Olympic Disappointment

**Paris, France:** Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who narrowly missed out on a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has revealed that she declined a video call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after her disappointing performance.

Phogat, who competed in the 50 kg weight category, was disqualified from the finals due to exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams. This setback followed her unsuccessful attempt to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

In an interview with ‘Lallantop’, Phogat explained her reasoning for declining the Prime Minister’s call. She stated her opposition to the practice of sharing video calls with athletes on social media, especially after a disappointing performance.

“PM Modi’s call came after the Olympics. But I declined to speak to him. The call wasn’t to my number but to an official associated with the Indian contingent. They informed me that the Prime Minister wished to speak with me,” shared Phogat.

Phogat emphasized her condition for the call: “They informed me that no one from the contingent would be present during the call, and I wouldn’t be allowed to keep my phone. Two people from the team would be present – one to facilitate the call and the other to record it.”

Upon asking if the recorded video would be shared on social media, the officials confirmed their intention. “I politely declined and said I wasn’t comfortable with my emotions and hard work being publicly displayed on social media in this manner,” she concluded.
