Sun Oct 06 23:51:41 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Witnesses Record-Breaking Air Show as IAF Celebrates 92nd Anniversary
**Chennai, October 6, 2024:** Over 15 lakh people flocked to Marina Beach on Sunday to witness a spectacular air show by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in celebration of its 92nd anniversary. The event, which marked the first air show in Chennai in 21 years, saw a breathtaking display of fighter jets, helicopters, and vintage aircraft, captivating the audience.
The air show, held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., featured a variety of formations showcasing the IAF’s prowess. These included the Dhwaj formation of Chetak helicopters carrying the Indian and IAF flags, the Puyal Formation by Rafale jets, and the Sarang formation by ALH MK-I helicopters.
The event, which entered the “Limca Book of Records” for the largest air show audience, was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and other senior officials from the armed forces.
The annual event, previously held in Delhi for a significant duration, has been rotated across different cities in recent years. After Chandigarh in 2022 and Prayagraj in 2023, Chennai became the latest host, making it the largest air show in terms of scale and audience.
Despite the humidity and long wait, the crowd was largely satisfied with the aerial display. However, police reported three fatalities due to heatstroke while watching the show.
The IAF is set to officially celebrate its 92nd Raising Day on October 8.
