Sun Oct 06 23:32:21 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Recalls High Commissioner to India Amidst Government Shake-up
**New Delhi, October 3, 2024:** The Bangladesh government has recalled its High Commissioner to India, Mostafizur Rahman, as part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle following the August 5th fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
Mr. Rahman’s return to Dhaka has been described as a “routine” retirement process, according to the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar. However, the move comes amidst significant administrative changes across various branches of the Bangladesh government, including the police, general administration, and judicial divisions.
While Mr. Rahman’s departure has been deemed routine, the interim government’s directives are being closely scrutinized, particularly given the unique nature of the advisory-led administration.
Mr. Rahman’s immediate return to Dhaka has left the post of Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi temporarily vacant, though the High Commission will continue its operations under the Deputy High Commissioner. The appointment of a new High Commissioner requires concurrence from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, and the process of selecting and confirming a replacement is underway.
Mr. Rahman, who previously served as Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva, had assumed his role as High Commissioner in New Delhi in 2022, succeeding Muhammad Imran, who was subsequently appointed as Dhaka’s envoy to Washington D.C.
