**Karachi, Pakistan** – A powerful explosion rocked Karachi International Airport late Sunday night, killing one person and injuring eleven others. The blast, which was heard across the city, caused significant damage to several vehicles.
Initial reports suggest that the explosion occurred near a tanker truck, Pakistan’s largest, located outside the airport. Video footage from the scene shows a massive plume of smoke rising above the airport, along with a raging fire engulfing several cars.
Sindh’s Home Minister, Zia ul Hassan, stated that the incident was an attack targeting foreign nationals. The injured individuals were transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.
According to Dawn News, the blast was heard in several neighborhoods, including Nazimabad, Second Chundrigar Road, and Karimabad. The Sindh Home Minister confirmed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chief Asif Ejaz Sheikh stating that the cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.
This incident comes amidst heightened security concerns in Pakistan. Earlier this week, the United States issued a security alert for its citizens in Pakistan, urging them to exercise caution.
