Mon Oct 07 00:32:19 UTC 2024: ## India Wins Kanpur Test in a Dramatic Fashion, Rohit Sharma Defends Aggressive Approach
**Kanpur, India:** Team India secured a thrilling victory against Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test, winning in a dramatic finish after two days of play were washed out due to rain. The win saw India achieve the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in Test history, but the captain, Rohit Sharma, believes the team’s aggressive approach was crucial, even if it meant potential criticism.
“Our bowlers did a great job early on, taking the wickets we needed. When we went in, we had to take some risks to get a result. I knew the match could have gone either way, but I didn’t care. That’s what coach Gautam Gambhir and the other players were thinking too, because you need to be bold to take these decisions,” said Sharma in an interview with bcci.tv.
He continued, “When things go right, it all looks good, and that’s where things can change quickly. If things don’t go our way, everyone criticizes the decision, but it’s about what we think inside the changing room. That’s what matters, and that’s what we went out there with.”
Sharma emphasized the importance of the team’s focus on achieving a result. “The strategy was clear, we wanted a result, and how we could get it. Everyone was searching for the answer. I think it was a fantastic series. We can’t take our eyes off this series,” he said.
The win highlights India’s aggressive approach under Rohit’s captaincy, a style he believes extends beyond the playing field. “For me, aggression is your work ethic. It’s not about my reaction, it’s the kind of batting we do, the fielding we put on, the kind of bowling we do, so for me, that’s aggression,” Sharma explained.
He acknowledged the team’s performance couldn’t have been achieved without the support of his teammates and the coaching staff. “Look, it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the other 10 players, and obviously the people sitting in the dressing room, to win a match after losing two and a half days. When we came here on the morning of the fourth day, the first thing, they (Bangladesh) were batting, and we needed to get them out. We needed 7 wickets quickly, so I thought it would all start from there,” he said.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy style has become synonymous with his trust in his intuition and decision-making. He remains focused on prioritizing wins, leading India to achieve victory in all formats, even amidst high-pressure scenarios like World Cups.
