Sun Oct 06 12:36:03 UTC 2024: ## Indian Bowlers Shine as Shreyanka Patil Claims Maiden World Cup Wicket Against Pakistan
Dubai, UAE: India’s bowlers delivered a stellar performance, restricting Pakistan to a paltry 105/8 in their Women’s T20 World Cup clash in Dubai on Sunday. The victory was made even sweeter by 22-year-old Shreyanka Patil, who claimed her maiden World Cup wicket in the high-stakes encounter.
“Getting the first wicket at a World Cup is very special, and against Pakistan, it was even more special,” said Patil after the match. “It’s amazing to be a part of this World Cup, especially with the crowd cheering for us.”
Patil’s two wickets in her four overs, combined with a disciplined performance from the entire Indian bowling unit, kept Pakistan under immense pressure throughout their innings. The Pakistan openers, Feroza and Sidra, were dismissed early in the powerplay, and despite efforts from Muneeba Ali and Nida Dar, wickets continued to fall.
Arundhati Reddy was the standout performer with the ball, taking 3/15, while Patil’s crucial wickets kept Pakistan’s scoring rate in check. Captain Fatima Sana attempted to spark a revival with two boundaries, but was brilliantly caught by Richa Ghosh. Despite a late flourish from Syeda Aroob Shah and Nida Dar, Pakistan fell short of a respectable total.
Patil also revealed that the team was prepared for the hot and humid conditions in Dubai. “We are well prepared for the heat,” she said. “I’m going to have an ice tea after this. It is pretty hot and humid here.”
With Pakistan’s low total, India will be confident as they go into the chase, aiming to start their World Cup campaign with a win.
