**Gwalior, India:** The Indian cricket team is gearing up for a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting on October 6th, looking to carry their momentum from a 2-0 Test series victory. However, a major blow has struck the hosts as star all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out due to a back injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Dube’s absence and announced that Tilak Varma will replace him. Varma will join the squad in Gwalior on Sunday morning.
Dube, a key member of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024, last played in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka in July and August. Meanwhile, Varma returns to the squad after last featuring in a T20I against Afghanistan in January.
In a press conference on the eve of the first T20I, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the opening partnership for the game. Sanju Samson will open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, the only specialist opener in the squad.
The first match will be played at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marking its first-ever international match. It is also the city’s first international game in 14 years, since Sachin Tendulkar’s historic double century in a 2010 ODI.
