**Guwahati, October 2:** Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest of 14 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering the state on Tuesday. Nine of the individuals were found in possession of Indian Aadhaar cards, highlighting concerns about identity fraud and potential security breaches.

The arrests were made in South Salmara-Mankachar and Karimganj districts, based on intelligence gathered by the Assam Police. Chief Minister Sarma praised the state police for their vigilance, stating that 108 illegal infiltrators have been apprehended since the recent unrest in Bangladesh.

Assam shares a 267.5 km long border with Bangladesh, with the districts of Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar being particularly vulnerable to infiltration. The state has an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Karimganj, one of three such posts in the Northeast region.

Assam DGP G P Singh has reassured the public that the police and Border Security Force (BSF) will work diligently to prevent illegal entry into the country. However, Indian passport holders will be allowed to return from Bangladesh through the entry point in Assam.
