Fri Oct 04 17:06:00 UTC 2024: ## St. Louis Man Released From Jail After Months of Inadequate Healthcare

**ST. LOUIS** – A St. Louis man, Raymond McDile, has been released from the City Justice Center after months of complaints about inadequate medical care. McDile, who suffers from severe health problems including COPD, emphysema, pneumonia, and heart disease, was arrested in June on charges of sexual trafficking of a child.

McDile’s fiancée, Nakeisha Whitney, stated that he struggled to breathe due to insufficient oxygen supply, didn’t receive all his prescribed medications, and was hospitalized with a COVID-19 infection that was initially treated as a cold.

These allegations are just the latest in a series of controversies surrounding the troubled jail. In the past year, there have been reports of a detainee developing a large hernia left unaddressed, another dying from dehydration and lack of insulin, and a paralyzed inmate left in his own feces.

Despite pledges for improvement by city officials and a new medical provider, judges have continued to order jail officials to provide medical care and transport inmates to appointments.

Judge Scott Millikan ultimately granted McDile’s release on house arrest, citing the unusual circumstances and McDile’s critical health condition. Millikan typically denies bond for those accused of sex crimes against children but acknowledged the exceptional nature of McDile’s case.

The city public safety spokesperson declined to comment on the situation.

McDile maintains his innocence and is awaiting trial on the charges. His attorney, Brendan Kottenstette, argued that McDile’s health was deteriorating in jail and he risked dying due to the inadequate care.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding the City Justice Center and its ability to provide adequate healthcare to detainees. It also raises questions about the responsibility of city officials to ensure the well-being of those in custody.
