**Gwalior, India:** In a bid to ensure a peaceful and incident-free T20I cricket match between India and Bangladesh, scheduled for October 6th, the district magistrate of Gwalior has issued prohibitory orders banning protests and the circulation of inflammatory material, particularly on social media.
The orders, which will remain in effect until October 7th, come in response to a “Gwalior bandh” call issued by the Hindu Mahasabha and planned protests from other organizations. The right-wing group had protested earlier this week demanding the match’s cancellation, citing alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The prohibitory orders, issued under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, were recommended by the Superintendent of Police who noted that several groups were planning demonstrations and processions to oppose the match. He expressed concerns about the potential for religious incitement and the spread of objectionable content on social media, posing a threat to social harmony.
The orders ban any activity that could disrupt the international match or incite religious tensions via social media platforms. This includes the display of banners, posters, and other materials containing inflammatory language, demonstrations, effigy burning, and gatherings of five or more people carrying weapons.
The India-Bangladesh match will take place at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marking the city’s return to hosting international cricket after a 14-year hiatus. The administration is deploying approximately 1,600 police officers for security and traffic management.
