**Shillong, Meghalaya**: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has issued a two-month ultimatum to the state government, demanding a policy guaranteeing job security for SSA teachers. The association, which represents thousands of teachers across the state, threatened democratic agitation if their demands are not met.

MSSASA President Aristotle C Rymbai stated that after extensive discussions, the association has prioritized job security over salary enhancements. They have called on the government to implement a policy similar to those in other states, ensuring the permanent employment of SSA teachers.

“We have given the government two months to finalize the policy and present it to the cabinet for approval,” said Rymbai. “If this deadline is not met, we will be forced to organize a democratic protest.”

The association has also scheduled meetings with all 12 cabinet ministers, including the Chief Minister, to advocate for their cause. This move follows discussions with senior officials from the education department who informed the association that the government is preparing a cabinet memorandum to address their demands.

The demand for job security comes amidst growing concerns regarding the precarious employment status of SSA teachers. While the government has acknowledged their vital role in education, concerns remain regarding their long-term employment prospects.
