Thu Oct 03 15:46:26 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Minister’s Accusations Against KTR Spark Controversy, Threaten Legal Action

Telangana Minister Konda Surekha ignited a political firestorm after accusing BRS leader KT Rama Rao of being the reason behind the divorce of actors Samantha and Naga Chaitanya. Surekha alleged that KTR, while serving as a minister, had used his position to target and harass actresses, including Samantha, by tapping their phones and using their vulnerabilities to blackmail them. She claimed that KTR’s actions drove several actresses out of the Telugu film industry and forced them into early marriages.

The BRS party swiftly condemned Surekha’s accusations as “cheap and disgusting”, and accused the Congress party of hypocrisy, pointing to their leader’s rhetoric on upholding the Constitution and democracy. The party further demanded an apology from Surekha, calling her statements a “disgrace to politics”.

KTR himself issued a legal notice to Surekha, threatening legal action for defamation and criminal charges. He demanded a public apology within 24 hours, asserting that her accusations were baseless and defamatory.

Surekha, however, refused to retract her statements and countered KTR’s legal notice with a notice of her own. She also accused the BRS party of targeting her online with abusive comments and demanded an apology from Rama Rao for those remarks.

The controversy has sparked outrage and condemnation from the film fraternity, with actress Kushboo Sundar calling Surekha’s comments an “absolute disgrace to womanhood” and demanding an apology from the minister.

In the face of mounting pressure, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, B Mahesh Kumar Goud, called for an end to the controversy and urged Congress leaders to exercise caution while speaking. He also revealed that he had spoken to Surekha, seeking an explanation for her comments.

The controversy has highlighted the volatile nature of political discourse in Telangana, with accusations and counter-accusations flying between rival parties. It also raises questions about the role of personal attacks and the use of sensitive topics like celebrity divorces in political maneuvering.
