The Meilan Navihood L1 GPS bike computer promises a high-end experience for a budget price, featuring navigation, detailed data tracking, and compatibility with a variety of sensors. However, a recent review by road.cc revealed a major flaw: the unit failed its waterproof test, with condensation forming on the screen during a single heavy rain.
Despite this setback, the Navihood L1 offers some strengths. It boasts a clear and easy-to-read screen, quick start-up, and efficient data recording. While the button controls can be unintuitive at times, the device’s overall functionality is usable.
However, the reliance on the app for customizing settings and the lack of detailed mapping in navigation mode are significant drawbacks. The navigation itself is basic and relies on simple, two-line representations of roads, which can make it challenging to navigate off-road.
While the Meilan Navihood L1 is reasonably priced at €149.99, road.cc ultimately cannot recommend the device due to its waterproofing issues. Several alternative options are available for similar or even lower prices, including the Magene C606 Smart GPS Bike Computer and the Coospo BC 107. If you’re looking for a more robust option, the Garmin Edge 130 Plus remains a strong contender despite being a few years old.
Ultimately, the Meilan Navihood L1 offers a mixed bag. While it provides some useful features at a reasonable price, its failure to meet its waterproof claims and other usability issues make it difficult to recommend.
