Wed Oct 02 06:05:39 UTC 2024: ## AFC Wimbledon Boss Praises Newcastle United’s Support Ahead of Rescheduled Carabao Cup Clash

AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson has heaped praise on Newcastle United for their support and generosity in the wake of the recent flooding at Plough Lane, which forced the postponement of their Carabao Cup third-round tie.

Despite the difficult circumstances, Jackson highlighted the resilience of his team and the football community, thanking everyone involved in the clean-up operation and those who donated to the cause. “It’s in our DNA as a club that when obstacles are in our way, we knock them down,” he said.

Jackson specifically expressed gratitude towards Newcastle United, who offered to quickly reschedule the match at St. James’ Park and also made a donation to the fundraising efforts. “They were really helpful in switching the game so quickly – they didn’t have to do that,” he said. “They’ve also donated to the fundraising, which is also a fantastic gesture.”

The game, now scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st, is expected to be a sellout with over 1,400 AFC Wimbledon fans already securing tickets and a crowd of over 50,000 anticipated. Jackson acknowledged the challenge of facing a Newcastle side that recently drew with champions Manchester City. However, he remains optimistic, stating, “We have to believe we can get a positive result at St James’ Park and go there with a game plan that’s going to give us a chance of doing that.”

The match presents a unique opportunity for the Dons to experience the atmosphere of St. James’ Park, a venue Jackson himself has fond memories of from his playing days with Tottenham. “It’s an unbelievable place to play football, a special place,” he said, adding that it will be “a special place for our supporters to go there and get behind their team.”

While AFC Wimbledon will be without suspended vice-captain Ryan Johnson, manager Jackson is hopeful that forward Aron Sasu, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, could feature in the game.

The re-arranged match is set to be a thrilling encounter, highlighting the spirit of resilience and community within the football world.
