Purdue University has made a significant coaching change, firing offensive coordinator Graham Harrell following a disappointing 1-3 start to the 2024 season. The Boilermakers’ recent 28-10 loss to Nebraska served as the final straw, pushing the team to make a move ahead of their upcoming matchup against the struggling Wisconsin Badgers.
Harrell joined the program in 2023 alongside Head Coach Ryan Walters, bringing with him extensive experience from previous offensive coordinator roles at North Texas, USC, and West Virginia. However, the Purdue offense has struggled mightily this season, averaging a dismal 21.8 points per game. The Boilermakers’ offensive woes are reflected in their national ranking, sitting at No. 84 in the country.
The firing of Harrell is just the first of what could be several changes for the struggling Boilermakers. While the offense has been a major concern, Purdue’s defense has also been a source of frustration, allowing a combined 132 points in their last three games.
The Boilermakers’ upcoming game against Wisconsin is now a must-win for both teams. Purdue will be hoping that the coaching change can spark a turnaround, while Wisconsin will be desperate for a victory to keep their bowl hopes alive.
