Tue Oct 01 08:25:41 UTC 2024: ## Former Bangladesh Cricket Captain Mashrafe Mortaza Accused of Illegal Share Transfer
**Dhaka, Bangladesh:** Former Bangladesh Cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza has been named in a police complaint alleging his involvement in the illegal transfer of shares. The complaint was filed by Sarwar Ghulam Chaudhary, the former chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League franchise Sylhet Strikers, at a local police station.
Chaudhary alleges that Mortaza and five others forcibly took over shares worth Tk 4.5 crore (approximately $53,000 USD) belonging to the Sylhet Strikers in 2023. The complaint further states that the accused threatened Chaudhary with death when he demanded payment for the shares.
While the police have confirmed the registration of a formal complaint (FIR), no arrests have been made yet. This latest accusation adds to the growing list of controversies surrounding Mortaza, who is already facing allegations of involvement in student attacks during political unrest in Bangladesh.
Despite a successful cricket career that spanned two decades, Mortaza has also ventured into politics, being a member of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political party.
This incident comes after fellow cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was accused of involvement in the murder of a garment factory worker. The accusations against Mortaza and Al Hasan highlight the complexities of navigating the intersection of sports, politics, and legal issues in Bangladesh.
