**Dhaka, Bangladesh** – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed keen interest in investing in Bangladesh’s Chattogram port, aiming to benefit both countries financially. This interest was conveyed by UAE Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi during a meeting with Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Interim Government on Shipping, Textiles, and Jute, on Sunday.

Ambassador Hamoudi highlighted the UAE’s belief that this investment would foster strong economic ties between the two nations. He emphasized the experience of Dubai-based DP World, a leading Emirati logistics company, in managing seaports across 60 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

“We have extensive experience in constructing ports like the London Gateway Port,” the Ambassador added.

The Advisor welcomed the investment proposal, stating that Bangladesh is always open to foreign investment and enjoys multi-dimensional relations with the UAE in various sectors. “This investment will further strengthen the friendly relations between our two nations,” Sakhawat said.

He also requested the UAE Ambassador to consider easing transit visas for Bangladeshi sailors, which the Ambassador assured would be considered seriously.

Furthermore, Sakhawat urged the UAE to invest in Bangladesh’s jute and textile industries, highlighting the rising global demand for eco-friendly jute products. He emphasized the growth of foreign investment in these sectors and encouraged the UAE to explore these lucrative opportunities.

The meeting was attended by a five-member UAE delegation, alongside Bangladeshi officials including Jute and Textiles Secretary M Abdur Rauf and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Sanjoy Kumar Banik.
