Renowned actor and former Member of Parliament Mithun Chakraborty has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This honor is the highest recognition bestowed upon an individual for their outstanding contributions to Indian cinema.
Director Vivek Agnihotri, who has collaborated with Chakraborty in several films, expressed his joy and lauded him as one of India’s greatest actors. Speaking to India Today Digital, Agnihotri praised Chakraborty’s acting prowess and his profound understanding of cinema. He reminisced about Chakraborty’s reign as a box-office superstar in the 1980s, lamenting that the industry had largely forgotten him after he reached a certain age.
“Bollywood believes that if you are old, you have nothing to offer in cinema,” Agnihotri said. “It was during this time that I brought him on board for my trilogy and asked him to be the soul of these films. We worked together on ‘The Tashkent Files,’ ‘The Kashmir Files,’ and now I’m working with him on the next installment, ‘The Delhi Files.'”
