**ABU DHABI, UAE:** South Africa dominated Ireland in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) on Friday, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory.
The Proteas chased down Ireland’s 171-8 with ease, reaching the target in just 18 overs. Ryan Rickelton, in a career-best performance, smashed 75 runs off 48 balls, including his maiden T20I half-century. Reeza Hendricks, meanwhile, notched his 16th T20I fifty, contributing a crucial 51 runs. The duo combined for a 136-run partnership, effectively taking the game away from Ireland.
Earlier, Ireland had made a promising start with Curtis Campher and Harry Tector guiding them through the powerplay. However, a late collapse in the final over, orchestrated by Patrick Kruger who claimed a career-best 4-27, capped Ireland’s innings at 171.
The series, which is being played in the United Arab Emirates due to cost considerations, continues on Sunday with the second T20I. Three One-Day Internationals will follow.
