**Sirsa, Haryana:** The Congress party has announced that Sirsa MP Kumari Selja will be campaigning for the party in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, addressing a public meeting in Narwana on September 26th. This comes after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) publicly targeted the Congress over alleged infighting, particularly regarding Selja’s absence from recent campaign activities.
Selja, a prominent Dalit leader, was notably absent from a recent Congress manifesto release event in Delhi, fueling speculation about her dissatisfaction with the party’s ticket distribution. Many believe she was upset with the favoritism shown to former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s loyalists, particularly in the selection of candidates for the 17 reserved (SC) seats.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in a clear attempt to exploit the situation, invited Selja to join the BJP, highlighting the alleged infighting within the Congress and their lack of a clear Chief Ministerial candidate. He even offered her a place in the BJP, stating they were “ready to induct her.”
However, Selja has rejected the BJP’s offer, stating she will remain with the Congress. “I didn’t take advice from anyone,” she said, adding that the BJP should “protect its own house” before making such offers.
Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala, who is actively campaigning for the Congress in Narwana, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects. He also stated that his son, Aditya Surjewala, will be contesting from Kaithal, a seat currently held by the BJP.
The upcoming Haryana assembly elections are scheduled for October 5th. With the BJP attempting to capitalize on the Congress’ perceived internal turmoil, the coming weeks will likely see a heated political battle in the state.
