Singapore, Singapore – Daniel Ricciardo’s final lap in Formula 1 was a poignant moment for both the driver and his former teammate, Max Verstappen. Though he finished last in the Singapore Grand Prix, Ricciardo snatched the fastest lap from race winner Lando Norris, gifting Verstappen a crucial bonus point and bolstering his championship lead.
The Australian, affectionately known as the “Honey Badger,” concluded his 13-year career with a flourish, showcasing his signature humor and charm. Despite finishing last, he was voted “Driver of the Day” by global viewers.
“Let’s say maybe the fairytale ending didn’t happen, but I also have to look back on what’s been 13 or so years and I’m proud,” Ricciardo said emotionally.
Known for his infectious smile and unique personality, Ricciardo leaves a legacy beyond just his impressive racing record. He brought Aussie culture to the sport, famously celebrating podium finishes by drinking champagne from his race boot, a tradition known as the “Shoey.”
Ricciardo bows out with eight Grand Prix wins, 32 podium appearances, and 1,329 points. His contributions to the sport, both on and off the track, will be greatly missed.
