Sun Sep 22 19:12:47 UTC 2024: ## Mangaluru Police to Crack Down on Vehicles Obstructing Traffic Near Schools
**Mangaluru, September 22, 2024:** The Mangaluru City Police have announced they will begin booking cases against vehicles parked outside schools that obstruct traffic movement. This decision comes after repeated complaints from citizens, particularly those from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes community, regarding the issue.
During a grievance meeting held on Sunday, Dalit activist S.P. Anand highlighted the problem of vehicles being parked outside St. Gerosa School in Jeppu and Father Muller Hospital in Valencia, despite available parking space within the school premises and hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) B.P. Dinesh Kumar confirmed that the police have issued notices to all schools where such issues have been reported, but have not seen any positive response. “We are now prepared to take action against these vehicles,” Kumar stated.
The meeting also addressed other traffic concerns raised by the community. Potholes near Nantoor Junction were identified as a major safety hazard, leading to demands for immediate repairs. DCP Kumar assured that the city police have already submitted a list of locations requiring pothole filling to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Failure by NHAI to address the issue could result in legal action being taken against the authority, he added.
However, regarding the request for a traffic signal at Nantoor Junction, Kumar explained that the installation is on hold until the proposed underpass construction at the junction is completed.
Another issue highlighted was the alleged use of the College of Fisheries in Yekkur for assaults and other illegal activities. In response, DCP Kumar instructed jurisdictional officers to issue a notice to the college.
Finally, the meeting addressed concerns related to tanker parking on Surathkal-Kana Bala Road and Kulai Honnakatte Road due to the closure of the ‘K.K. Gate’ of New Mangalore Port. City Traffic officers assured that the issue would be resolved upon the inauguration of the new K.K. Gate.
