Mon Sep 23 12:10:52 UTC 2024: ## “लापता लेडीज” – India’s Official Entry for Oscars 2025

Kiran Rao’s critically acclaimed film “Lapata Ladies,” which released in March this year, has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. The film, which explores the identity of women in society through a witty comedic lens, has become one of the most talked-about films of the year.

Following the release of the film, many viewers took to social media to express their desire to see “Lapata Ladies” represent India at the Oscars. This demand has now been fulfilled, as the Film Federation of India (FFI) selected the film from a list of 29 contenders, including “Animal” and “Aattam.”

The film garnered praise at its first screening at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and enjoyed a successful limited release in March 2024. Despite being made on a budget of less than 5 crores, “Lapata Ladies” went on to gross over 25 crores worldwide. The film has also been praised for its performances, particularly from actors Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. Kiran Rao’s direction has been lauded for its sensitive portrayal of women.

“Lapata Ladies” holds a special significance for Aamir Khan, who produced the film with his ex-wife Kiran Rao. This is the fourth film from Aamir’s production house to be chosen as India’s official Oscar entry, following “Lagaan” (2001), “Taare Zameen Par” (2007), and “Peepli Live” (2010). While “Lagaan” was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination, the other two films didn’t make it.

Reacting to the news, Ravi Kishan, who stars in “Lapata Ladies,” said, “This is like a dream come true for me. This is the greatest honour, and I never thought I would reach this far. This is the best and biggest news of my life. This film is a reflection of India, and it beautifully depicts women empowerment. It is India’s film.”

The entire film fraternity now waits with bated breath to see how far “Lapata Ladies” goes in the Oscars race.
