Mon Sep 23 10:12:29 UTC 2024: ## Brazilian Book Club Fosters Spiritual Growth and Community Among Women
**São Paulo, Brazil** – Naná Mendes Castillo, a pastor and nurse, has found a unique way to encourage reading and spiritual growth among Brazilian women through a digital book club called “Clube Fp4.8” (Philippians 4.8 Book Club).
Castillo, who launched the club in 2021, noticed a decline in reading habits among Brazilians, particularly women. In a nation where only 2.5 books are read annually per person, she saw an opportunity to leverage technology to revitalize the love for books.
“Clube Fp4.8” provides a structured approach to reading, focusing on depth and transformation rather than speed. Members participate in weekly online discussions, guided by Castillo, and delve into carefully selected books, typically reading only five or six books per year.
The club has blossomed beyond initial expectations, with over 770 active members and a total of almost 1,500 women participating since its inception. Participants have reported experiencing deeper learning, new friendships, stronger community bonds, and a renewed commitment to spiritual disciplines, particularly Bible reading.
Castillo believes that the book club’s success goes beyond promoting reading. It has also facilitated a significant increase in Bible reading among participants, leading to personal transformation and growth.
“The good books we’ve studied with care and attention have pointed us to the great Author and Book,” Castillo shared. “When we read good books that point us to him, we grow in knowledge of him and become more aware of the undeniable need to open the Bible and read it carefully and attentively.”
The impact of “Clube Fp4.8” extends beyond the online platform. Inspired by their experiences, many members have formed their own book clubs in their local communities and churches.
Castillo’s initiative highlights the potential of technology to nurture spiritual growth and foster community. It demonstrates that even in a rapidly digitalized world, a focus on meaningful content and personal connection can create a powerful and lasting impact.
