KYIV, Ukraine – President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to travel to the United States next week to present his “victory plan” for ending the war with Russia. The visit will include meetings with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and possibly Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Zelensky plans to attend sessions of the U.N. Security Council and General Assembly on September 26th, and will meet with Biden and Harris separately that day. He is also hoping to meet with Trump on September 26th or 27th, though no details have been released yet.
Zelensky revealed his plan in August, describing it as a roadmap for forcing Russia into a diplomatic solution. He emphasized the need for swift action from key allies between October and December.
This trip comes at a crucial moment in the war, with Zelensky seeking further support from the United States, Ukraine’s key ally. He is expected to push for the lifting of restrictions on long-range missile strikes within Russia.
Despite Ukrainian troops launching a surprise incursion into Russia’s Kursk region last month, Russian forces continue their slow but steady advance in eastern Ukraine.
Zelensky has consistently advocated for a “just peace” and ruled out a frozen conflict, believing it would only postpone future Russian aggression.
