**Wilmington, Delaware** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United States on Saturday for a three-day visit, kicking off his trip with the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by outgoing US President Joe Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The summit, which brought together leaders from Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, focused on strengthening ties and outlining a strategy for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Modi described the Quad as a “force of Global Good” and stressed its commitment to a rules-based international order. Leaders praised India’s leadership role in the Indian Ocean, with US President Biden acknowledging the valuable lessons learned from India’s experience in the region.
During a bilateral meeting with President Biden, Modi discussed issues like China and Russia. This could be their last meeting before the 2024 US Presidential Election, as Biden is in his final term.
Beyond the Quad summit, Modi’s visit includes an address to the Indian diaspora in New York, where he will speak at a community event in Long Island on September 22. The following day, he will deliver a speech at the UN’s Summit of the Future before returning to India.
The UN Summit of the Future, themed “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” is a significant event as the UN approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025. Member states are expected to adopt the Pact of the Future, which includes groundbreaking language on reforms to the Security Council.
During his speech at the summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to present India’s model of domestic development as an example for other nations.
This visit marks a key moment in US-India relations, with both countries seeking to deepen their cooperation on a range of issues, from security to technology and development.
