Sun Sep 22 10:51:31 UTC 2024: ## Pant’s Emotional Century Guides India to Dominant Win Over Bangladesh

Chennai, India: Rishabh Pant, in a moving display of resilience and determination, smashed a century on his Test comeback, leading India to a resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Chepauk on Sunday. The win extends India’s unbeaten home record in Test cricket to 18 consecutive series.

Pant’s emotional celebration after reaching his sixth Test hundred, a silent prayer of gratitude, symbolized the significance of his return from a serious car accident in December 2022. “This 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai,” Pant said, “It was emotional, I wanted to score in each and every match, but coming back to Test cricket, which is where I belong the most, made it special.”

His innings, alongside a brilliant century from Shubman Gill (119*), formed a crucial 167-run partnership that helped India recover from a precarious overnight score of 81/3. The duo’s efforts ultimately sealed India’s control of the match.

The victory was set up by a stellar bowling performance, with Ravichandran Ashwin (6/88) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/72) taking nine wickets between them to dismantle Bangladesh’s batting line-up in the second innings. Ashwin’s six-wicket haul was his 37th in Test cricket, tying him with legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne.

Earlier, India had amassed a substantial 376 in their first innings, thanks to a crucial 199-run partnership between Jadeja (86) and Ashwin (113). Bangladesh, in reply, could only muster 149, giving India a 227-run lead.

India’s dominant performance underscores their strength at home, as they continue their quest for a 19th consecutive Test series win on home soil. The second and final Test of the series will be played in Mirpur from December 22nd.
