Amaravati, September 22, 2024 – Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the ongoing Tirupati laddu adulteration controversy, accusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of spreading lies for political gain.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Reddy, who is the leader of the YSR Congress Party, called Naidu a “habitual liar” and alleged that his actions have hurt the religious beliefs of millions of Hindus. He argued that the alleged adulterated ghee was rejected by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, and never entered the premises.

The controversy erupted after Naidu, at a political party meeting on September 18, claimed that the previous YSRCP government used substandard ingredients and animal fat for making laddus, a popular offering at the temple. Following his allegations, TTD officials confirmed the presence of animal fat and lard in some samples of ghee, leading to the blacklisting of the supplier.

However, Mr. Reddy maintains that Naidu’s claims are false and politically motivated. He urged the Prime Minister to reprimand Naidu for spreading lies and restore the public’s faith in the sanctity of TTD.

This controversy has sparked outrage among devotees and has taken a political turn. The Centre has ordered an investigation into the matter, while a Madras High Court lawyer has filed a police complaint in Tamil Nadu against Mr. Reddy.
