Fri Sep 20 12:41:25 UTC 2024: ## Vienna Airport Unveils Expanded Duty-Free Shop, Aiming for Enhanced Shopping Experience

Vienna Airport has unveiled a significantly expanded duty-free shop in Terminal 1, boasting the largest travel retail experience in Austria. Operated by German travel retailer Gebr. Heinemann, the store has increased its size by 67%, reaching a total of 21,500 square feet.

The expansion has allowed for a wider range of products, including a greater selection of sunglasses, leather goods, sneakers, and niche fragrances, as well as the introduction of new brands. The shop has also implemented a flexible furniture system inspired by Vienna’s Naschmarkt, allowing for quick adjustments based on traveler demand.

Vienna Airport CEO Julian Jäger stated the expansion aims to enhance the shopping offer following exceptional passenger numbers this summer. He highlighted the increased brand variety, stronger regional assortment, and modern atmosphere of the new duty-free shop.

With passenger traffic at Vienna Airport expected to top 30 million this year, the expanded retail space is expected to generate a larger share of the airport’s revenue, which is forecast to exceed €1 billion in 2024.

Heinemann emphasizes a more exclusive range of products in addition to the wider selection. This includes an expanded offering of popular regional products like Mozartkugeln, Manner waffles, and Sachertorte, as well as new arrivals like fashion labels Steve Madden and Michael Kors, and high-end perfume and cosmetics brands such as Armani Privé, Creed, and Kérastase.

The shop also features a digital wine screen that provides information about bottles when picked up, easing the decision-making process for shoppers. A striking 43-foot high, 23-foot wide digital video wall showcasing the Steve Madden brand with a New York graffiti-style theme further adds to the revamped shopping experience.

The store reopening marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Vienna Airport and Gebr. Heinemann, which began in 2003 and has been extended until 2034. The travel retailer currently operates nine stores at the airport, with a further 34,500-square-foot store planned for the south extension opening in 2027.

With the southern expansion costing $470 million and adding more retail services, Vienna Airport expects to see a significant increase in sales thanks to the enhanced shopping and catering experiences.
