**Moscow, September 18th** – Despite a recent slump in crude oil exports, Russia’s refined petroleum product exports have rebounded significantly in the first half of September, according to data from analytics firm Vortexa. Total exports of refined oil products by sea averaged about 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd) between September 1 and 15, nearly 10% higher than August.
The increase is largely attributed to improved refining rates and increased exports of diesel and fuel oil. Diesel and gasoil exports totaled about 807,000 bpd in the first two weeks of September, a rise of around 10% from August. Fuel oil exports saw a 13% increase, reaching 749,000 bpd, their highest level so far this year.
This recovery follows a period of lower-than-expected output due to extensive maintenance and repairs at Russian refineries. These repairs were prompted by Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refining capacity earlier this year.
While fuel exports are showing signs of recovery, the value of Russia’s crude oil exports has plummeted by nearly 30% since the end of June. This decline is attributed to falling international benchmark prices, which are impacting the value of cheaper Russian crude grades.
The Russian government has extended its ban on gasoline exports from October to the end of December 2024 to ensure domestic supply stability.
