**Kathmandu, September 20, 2024** – Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, has denied any involvement in the transfer of funds from cooperatives to the television station.
Lamichhane made this statement during his appearance before the Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee on the Misuse of Funds of Cooperative Societies. He claimed that he was unaware of the origins of the funds, which totaled Rs 173.1 million, and had not received any money from the cooperatives himself.
He explained that he joined Galaxy Television after being offered an attractive salary by Gitendrababu Rai and had received a monthly salary of Rs 5 lakh and an advance of Rs 75 lakh. He also stated that he left the company without taking any money and had no shareholding in any cooperative.
The Committee’s report highlighted the transfer of funds from cooperatives to Gorkha Media, prompting Lamichhane to address the allegations. He acknowledged that he was unaware of GB Rai’s connection to a cooperative until joining Gorkha Media and that he was not involved in the company’s establishment. Lamichhane received a 15% sweat share in the company after joining.
The investigation into the misuse of cooperative funds continues. The Committee is expected to question other individuals involved in the transfer of funds to Gorkha Media in the coming days.
