**Detroit, MI** – Vice President Kamala Harris held a star-studded rally in Michigan on Thursday, featuring appearances from celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, and Meryl Streep, all in a bid to energize voters ahead of the November 5 election.
The event, dubbed “Unite for America,” saw Harris discuss her key campaign points, including abortion, the economy, immigration, gun control, and uniting against the divisive forces represented by former President Donald Trump. She also made a surprising appeal to gun owners, stating, “I’m a gun owner too,” while advocating for an end to assault weapons.
Meanwhile, Trump continued his divisive rhetoric, targeting Jewish Americans in a Washington, D.C. event. He claimed that Jewish voters had historically favored Democrats and would be responsible for a potential loss in the election, stating, “If I don’t win this election… in my opinion the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss.” He also accused Harris of failing to back Israel after the recent Hamas attacks and urged Jewish voters to reconsider supporting her.
The Gaza war, a contentious issue in the election, has garnered attention and potentially put Harris at a disadvantage in Michigan, home to a large Arab-American community opposed to the war. The US Uncommitted movement, which opposes the Biden-Harris administration’s support for Israel’s actions, announced it would not be backing Harris.
Harris’s campaign received a boost from a New York Times/Siena poll showing her marginally ahead in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state, although the survey also placed her and Trump level nationwide. The election remains a tight race with 47 days until polling day.
The Teamsters union, known for its long tradition of endorsing Democratic candidates, declined to endorse either Trump or Harris this year. However, Harris’s campaign announced that local Teamsters branches representing one million people had endorsed her candidacy.
