**Bronx, NY** – Keber Martinez, 25, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a terrifying shooting spree at Jacobi Medical Center in January 2022. Martinez pleaded guilty to first-degree assault after firing multiple shots inside the emergency room, injuring one man and sending dozens of staff and patients scrambling for safety.

The incident, captured on surveillance footage, showed Martinez pulling out a gun and firing at a 35-year-old man, striking him in the left arm. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people dove for cover under chairs and furniture. One bullet narrowly missed a mother holding a baby, lodging in a nearby wall.

“The defendant opened fire inside Jacobi’s emergency room, wounding one man and showing complete disregard for the patients and staff,” stated Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. “The defendant’s violent actions have now been answered with a substantial prison sentence.”

Martinez, who was identified through hospital check-in records and a 911 call from his sister, was arrested 12 hours after the shooting. It is believed that he and the victim were acquainted.

In addition to his prison sentence, Martinez will be subject to five years of post-release supervision. The incident sparked fear and outrage within the community, leading to increased security measures at the hospital.
