**London, UK -** The UK games market experienced a slight decline in August, with a 1.5% drop in physical game sales compared to the same period last year. Despite this, digital game sales continued to grow, reaching a 10% increase year-on-year.
**Take-Two Dominates Charts**
Take-Two Interactive enjoyed a strong month, with Rockstar Games’ **Grand Theft Auto V** claiming the top spot and **GTA Online** securing fourth place. 2K Games, another Take-Two label, also performed well, with **Borderlands**, **Mafia**, and **WWE** titles all making the top ten. The **Borderlands** franchise, boosted by the upcoming **Borderlands 4** announcement and the **Borderlands** movie, saw a resurgence with multiple titles charting.
**New Releases Struggle**
While **Madden NFL 25** debuted at number 41, its sales were down significantly compared to the previous installment. The release of EA’s **College Football** title in July likely contributed to the decline. Remastered versions of **Doom** and **Doom 2** also debuted in August, but were overshadowed by the free upgrade offered to existing owners.
**Consoles Remain Sluggish**
The console market continued to experience a slow summer, with overall console sales down 45% year-on-year. **PS5** sales saw a slight increase compared to July but were still down 57% compared to August 2023. **Switch** sales also declined, dropping 10% from the previous month and 30% year-on-year. **Xbox Series** sales remained relatively flat but were down 22% compared to August 2023.
**Accessories Still Strong**
While console sales were subdued, accessories continued to perform well. **DualSense** controllers remained the top-selling items, with the **DualSense White** leading the year-to-date rankings. However, the **PlayStation Portal**, despite its high price, topped the revenue charts for the year.
**Digital Dominance Continues**
The data highlights the continued dominance of digital game sales, with 75% of all games sold by major publishers in the UK last month being downloaded. This trend is expected to continue as online gaming and streaming become increasingly popular.
