**Bengaluru, India** – A new multilingual mobile application, “Rangeen Machhli,” was launched recently, providing valuable information on popular ornamental fish species to hobbyists, aquarium shop owners, and fish farmers across India.

Developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) with support from the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the app offers information in eight Indian languages, making it accessible to a wider audience.

“Rangeen Machhli” features include:

* **”Find Aquarium Shops” tool:** This allows users to locate nearby aquarium stores, promoting local businesses and providing access to reliable sources for ornamental fish and related products.
* **”Basics of Aquarium Care” module:** This covers essential topics such as types of aquariums, fish care, water filtration, lighting, feeding, and daily maintenance.
* **”Ornamental Aquaculture” module:** This focuses on breeding and rearing of different ornamental fish species.

The app highlights the rich diversity of ornamental fish in India, with over 195 indigenous varieties reported from the North-East Region and Western Ghats, and nearly 400 species from marine ecosystems.

The launch of “Rangeen Machhli” aligns with the goals of the PMMSY, which aims to promote ecologically healthy, economically viable, and socially inclusive development of India’s fisheries sector. The app is expected to contribute to the “Blue Revolution,” fostering sustainable and responsible development of the fisheries sector in India.
