Fri Sep 20 07:46:41 UTC 2024: ## Tirupati Laddu Controversy Sparks Outrage on Social Media

A social media storm erupted after lab reports allegedly revealed the presence of “beef tallow, fish oil” and “lard” (pig fat) in Tirupati laddus, the iconic sweet offering at the renowned Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. The reports, which were shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), sparked outrage among users, many of whom condemned the alleged adulteration as an insult to Hindu religious beliefs.

One user, sharing the lab report, called the findings a “SLAP” on the entire nation and Hindu community, garnering over 1 lakh views and 4,000 shares. Several users blamed former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy for the alleged incident.

However, other users pointed out that the allegations were based on three circulated images of the lab report, with no official confirmation. One user highlighted a news archive detailing the discontinuation of Nandini ghee, the traditional ingredient for the laddus, suggesting a possible connection to the current controversy.

The lab report was dated July 16, 2024, after samples were sent to a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory on July 9. While the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson condemned the alleged adulteration as an “affront to Hindu religion,” neither the Andhra Pradesh government nor the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the temple, has commented on the issue.

The controversy continues to simmer on social media, with many demanding a thorough investigation and accountability for the alleged adulteration of the revered Tirupati laddu.
