**Jodhpur:** The death of Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Priyanka Bishnoi, who was serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Jodhpur, has sparked outrage and protests. The deceased’s family and the Bishnoi community are accusing Vasundhara Hospital in Jodhpur of medical negligence and demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.
Bishnoi, a 2016 batch RAS officer, underwent surgery for abdominal pain at the hospital. Her condition deteriorated after the surgery, and she was shifted to Ahmedabad for further treatment, where she eventually succumbed.
The family alleges that the hospital staff displayed negligence during her treatment and that her death could have been prevented. They have also accused the Jodhpur District Collector of blacklisting their phone numbers and conducting a one-sided inquiry.
While the police are yet to file an FIR, they claim they are awaiting the report of the inquiry committee formed by the District Collector. However, the family has expressed doubts about the committee’s impartiality, alleging it has not spoken to them.
Following the protests, the family eventually agreed to a post-mortem examination of Bishnoi’s body, after which it was taken to her ancestral village for the final rites.
The Vasundhara Hospital administration has denied all allegations of negligence, stating that the surgery was successful and that Bishnoi’s condition deteriorated during the transfer to Ahmedabad. However, the question remains as to why she needed to be transferred if the surgery was successful.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding medical negligence and accountability. The family’s demand for a CBI probe is a testament to the growing distrust towards the local authorities.
