The investigation, confirmed by the agency, stems from a 2012 interview with Town and Country magazine where Kennedy’s daughter Kathleen recounted the incident. She described her father, in his younger years, cutting off the head of a whale that had washed ashore and securing it to the roof of their minivan for the five-hour drive home.
Kennedy, while campaigning for Trump in Arizona, acknowledged receiving a letter about the investigation. He neither confirmed nor denied taking the whale head but stated that the deadline to bring charges had long passed.
