**San Francisco, CA -** The UK will host a major conference in San Francisco on November 21st and 22nd to discuss the implementation of AI safety commitments made at the AI Seoul Summit earlier this year. The event will feature workshops and discussions focused on the practical application of AI safety frameworks, bringing together leading AI developers, researchers, and policymakers.
The conference comes ahead of the AI Action Summit, to be held in France in February 2025. The UK’s initiative aims to support the development of comprehensive safety frameworks for AI systems, which are crucial to mitigating the potential risks associated with advanced AI, particularly the misuse of the technology by malicious actors.
At the Seoul Summit, 16 leading AI companies from around the world, including those from the US, EU, Republic of Korea, China, and the UAE, committed to developing and publishing detailed AI safety frameworks. These frameworks will outline strategies to address potential risks and ensure responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.
“This conference is a clear sign of the UK’s ambition to further the shared global mission to design practical and effective approaches to AI safety,” said Science, Innovation, and Technology Secretary Peter Kyle. “The discussions in San Francisco will give companies a clear focus on where and how they can bolster their AI safety plans, building on the commitments they made in Seoul.”
The conference, co-hosted with the Centre for the Governance of AI and led by the UK’s AI Safety Institute (AISI), will provide a platform for AI companies to share best practices and insights. The UK’s AI Safety Institute, established last year, is the world’s first state-backed body dedicated to AI safety and has played a crucial role in fostering global collaboration on this important issue.
The conference comes as the US government prepares to host the first meeting of the International Network of AI Safety Institutes, bringing together leading AI safety experts from around the world to coordinate and advance global research and collaboration on AI safety.
