Thu Sep 19 16:47:00 UTC 2024: ## Portable Wind Turbine Promises Power on the Go
For outdoor enthusiasts who love to escape the grid but still rely on their mobile gadgets, Aurea has developed the Shine 2.0, a 3-in-1 portable wind turbine. This compact device, folding to the size of a water bottle, provides renewable energy on demand.
The Shine 2.0 boasts three 23.6-inch blades that harness wind energy to generate up to 50 watts of power. This is enough to charge a phone in just 17 minutes or a laptop in under two hours when wind speeds reach 28 mph. However, in lower wind conditions, charging times can increase significantly.
Users can monitor the turbine’s performance through a companion app via Bluetooth connectivity. A built-in 12,000 mAh Li-ion battery doubles as a power bank, supporting fast-charging for phones, laptops, and other devices. Aurea offers optional adaptors for compatibility with power stations from brands like Jackery, EcoFlow, and Bluetti.
“Whether you’re exploring off-grid or facing a power outage at home, this turbine provides renewable energy to fast charge your devices when you need them most,” said Aurea co-founder, Rachel Carr.
The Shine 2.0 is the latest iteration of Aurea’s successful Kickstarter campaign, which funded the first version. The company has returned to the platform for this update, with pledges starting at CA$ 483 (about US$356). Shipping is estimated to begin in May 2025.
