Thu Sep 19 23:49:27 UTC 2024: ## Modi Rallies in Kashmir, Promises Development and Statehood Restoration

**Srinagar/Jammu:** In his first rally in the Kashmir Valley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the historic voter turnout in the ongoing Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections as a testament to a “Naya (New) Kashmir.” He pledged his commitment to development and attacked dynastic parties in the region, including the Congress, National Conference, and PDP.

During his 38-minute speech in Srinagar, Modi emphasized that the large turnout reflected a newfound spirit of democracy and the people’s rejection of “three families” who he accused of hindering the region’s progress. He highlighted the government’s initiatives in education and healthcare, pointing to the establishment of PM Shri schools and the addition of 1100 medical seats.

Modi also addressed a rally in Katra, Jammu, reiterating his government’s commitment to restoring statehood in Jammu & Kashmir. He stated that terrorism and separatism, which have weakened since the abrogation of Article 370, will be completely eradicated from the region.

The Prime Minister urged voters to ensure the “sunset” of dynastic politics and choose the BJP, promising a new era of development and prioritizing the region’s interests. He accused the Congress of insulting Hindu gods and goddesses under a “well-thought-out conspiracy.”

Reactions to Modi’s speeches were divided. Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, accused Modi of focusing on “three families” while ignoring the BJP’s failures and the rise of terrorism in the region. The Congress spokesperson, Sheikh Amir, questioned the BJP’s commitment to development, pointing to their decision to leave 28 seats uncontested in Kashmir.

The first phase of the assembly elections saw a record turnout of 61.13%, a significant increase from the previous elections, marking a historic shift in the region’s political landscape. The elections are being seen as crucial for shaping the future of Jammu & Kashmir and its return to statehood.
