**Chennai, India (September 19, 2024):** Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant steered India out of a precarious position on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, putting on a crucial 62-run stand after the hosts were reduced to 34/3 early in the innings.

The duo faced a challenging Bangladesh bowling attack, but their partnership was not without its hiccups. Both batsmen displayed moments of confusion between the wickets, which fortunately did not lead to a run out. In one instance, Pant called for a triple after having jogged for a single, forcing Jaiswal to dive back into his crease as Pant misjudged the ball.

“Slip ho gaya yaar (I slipped),” a shocked Jaiswal exclaimed after the near-miss.

Despite the initial struggles, the pair recovered to solidify India’s innings after a dreadful start. Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just 6 runs by Hasan Mahmud, followed by Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) who also fell to the Bangladesh pacer.

Pant, who scored 39 runs, and Jaiswal, who reached his half-century, arrested the slide before Pant was dismissed by Mahmud again. Jaiswal was later dismissed by Nahid Rana, while KL Rahul contributed 16 runs before being sent back by Hasan Miraz.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, with crucial half-centuries, helped India build a formidable partnership and finish the day with a respectable total. Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to field first.
