**MIDDLETOWN, VA** – A new Sheetz gas station and convenience store is officially open in Middletown, offering 24/7 service and a grand opening celebration on Monday, August 14th. The store, located at 121 Confidence Lane, boasts 16 fuel pumps, nine diesel fuel lanes, and will employ around 30 people.
Grand opening festivities start at 9 a.m. with three gift card giveaways: two for $250 and one for “free Sheetz for a Year” worth $2,500. A ribbon cutting will take place at 10:45 a.m.
Throughout the day, customers can enjoy free self-serve coffee and soda. From 9-11 a.m., those who bring a non-perishable food item for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank will receive Sheetz merchandise. In honor of the grand opening, Sheetz is donating $2,500 to both the food bank and Special Olympics of Virginia.
The new store, situated off Interstate 81’s exit 302, was built on a 20-acre property and represents a by-right use. Some residents had expressed concerns about the Sheetz’s impact on the area’s rural character, but it received approval in December 2023.
This opening comes as a Wawa gas station and convenience store is also expected to arrive in Middletown, potentially on the corner of Carolyn Avenue and Reliance Road. Both Sheetz and Wawa are known for their similar business models and offerings, adding competition to the area’s convenience store market.
