**PETALING JAYA, Sept 19** – Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, President of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), made a visit to the Barisan Nasional (BN) election machinery in Mahkota ahead of the upcoming by-election, expressing his support for the coalition’s candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah.

Dr Wee’s visit included stops at nearby polling stations and the BN’s operations centre. He was seen at Kg Melayu 2 polling station, where he encountered Umno Women and Family Affairs Council chairman Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, former national unity minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, and former Johor state assembly deputy speaker Datuk Samsolbari Jamali.

At the BN-MCA Operations Centre for Kg Melayu Timor 2 polling station, Dr Wee observed staff and volunteers distributing handbills and conducting house-to-house visits. He was accompanied by Wanita MCA national chairman Datuk Wong You Fong, Tenang assemblyman Haslinda Salleh, and other MCA leaders.

In a Facebook post, Dr Wee highlighted Syed Hussien’s “humble character and ability to mix well with all communities regardless of race,” praising him as the “complete package” that voters are seeking.

The Mahkota seat became vacant following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on August 2. The by-election will see Syed Hussien vying for the seat against Perikatan Nasional’s candidate, Mohamad Haizan Jaafar. Early voting is scheduled for Sept 24, with polling day set for Sept 28.
